Project24 at the Night of Theatres was in the spirit of sustainability Final report

Theatre Night was different this year! Young artists from several different spheres and the National Theatre's residual material were in the lead during the sustainably-creative one. The National Theatre and the student platform Kreativní kampus presented Projekt24 - a 24-hour marathon that aimed to highlight the theme of sustainability, break down the boundaries between artist and audience, and last but not least, give students an opportunity on the grounds of the largest Czech theatre institution. The entire event took place on 23 March 2024 in the Operations Building B (Themos) at the New Stage, not only as a response to its planned renovation.

Even though the National Theatre tries to make our productions as sustainable as possible, which is helped by our participation in The Theatre Green Book, there is always leftover material. And this was not only an inspiration, but especially a material for creation for three young art school students - designer Kryštof Bača, a student of Fashion and Footwear Design at UMPRUM, sculptor Amelia Dolanska, who combines many artistic talents in her person, and Ondřej Plíva, a student of figurative sculpture at AVU and a unique draughtsman and painter.

Each of them had to create a unique work of art within 24 hours, which was then presented at the final opening. Materials that would otherwise have no use became a valuable resource from which something new and valuable was created.

The building was open throughout Saturday 23 March 2024, and visitors were able to observe the work of the young artists at close range, enjoy several artistic performances that culminated in the final opening, or perhaps browse the National Theatre merch from the ND Up series.

There was a great deal of interest in the event, with several hundred spectators attending throughout the day, with the final artwork opening being the most popular. Those who could not attend live were able to watch the whole process in an online stream on the National Theatre's social media, which was used by about four thousand viewers.

As an added bonus, viewers were able to listen to live moderated segments every hour in which selected topics related to Sustainability were discussed by National Theatre staff and members of the Kreativní kampus.
